Insurance Claims

Insurance Claims

When you make an insurance claim, you have usually suffered some type of a loss or your property has sustained damage that is caused by one of the named perils insured by your insurance policy.

Your insurance policy provides coverage and compensation to you for covered losses or the damages you sustain as a result of the claims process.

Due to the complexity of insurance claims, miscommunication is a common occurrence when trying to get the information you need from your insurance company.

At America’s BEST We will help you every step of the way making sure you are aware of every decision that has to be made.

Depending on the type of insurance claim you are making, the process will be different. Home insurance and personal property insurance claims will involve getting approvals for estimates, making repairs, or replacing items. Each of these steps can be frustrating and confusing if you don’t know what to expect.

The goal of America’s BEST policy is to get you back in the position you were in before the loss as quickly as possible. Keeping communication open and up to date with what is required at every step of the way will help the claims process go as quickly as possible.

Insurance Claims

The biggest mistake you can make when something goes wrong with your home or personal property is to delay in calling the insurance company.  When a claim happens, that’s when America’s BEST insurance professionals are ready to help.

At the time of the claim, when the loss is happening things can be a little chaotic. What you need to remember is you have three responsibilities as things are happening, or have just happened and you need to do them in the order that makes the most sense to keep yourself safe in the process. Aside from calling the America’s BEST professionals, this is what you have to do:

  1. Prevent further loss
  2. Salvage any items you can
  3. Photograph and videotape the damage as soon as you can to provide this as additional proof of loss.
  4. Do not throw anything away. Your insurance company has a right to see the items if you expect to be compensated.

Aside from the damage to your building, you will want to make a claim for all the personal items, and contents in your home that were damaged. This is probably the most daunting task for people in a loss.

Having a home inventory filled in, or photos and other records prepared in advance really helps.

It is not enough to just say you had things, you will need to document and itemize a list (within reason) to “make your claim”.
